Purcell Tire considers education as the first steps in safety, service, and an effective tire management program. To accomplish this, we offer a wide variety of courses in all areas of tire and wheel knowledge. Our workplace training and education programs are designed to: raise the learner’s awareness; change behavior to improve safety, quality, and productivity; increase efficiencies, reduce waste, and eliminate defects.
This is the foundational course for all of mine site team members, and should be offered annually to compensate for the turnover of new team members. We recommend that everyone is made aware of tire/wheel safety and maintenance issues. Our experience has shown that anyone with this awareness of tires and wheels can make a significant contribution to safe work practices. The goals of this course are reducing risks of injury or death, and cost reduction, by complying with recommended best practices.
This course builds upon Tire and Wheel Safety Awareness 101, tailored for job-specific site personnel such as maintenance technicians, tire fitters, engineers, operations, vehicle operators, and safety personnel. The goals in this course extends the knowledge and understanding of tires, safety, and specific actions that can be taken to increase tire performance, which directly results in a lower operating cost and overall safety.
Vehicle operators contribute greatly to extended tire life. Tire industry best practices are reviewed and discussed. These topics include: ensuring that, first and foremost, all safety practices are strictly followed; avoiding job site hazards; following loading and dumping best practices; controlling speed and navigating turns and inclines.
In our view, management of a tire program is management of risk – of safety and environmental incidents, higher than necessary operating costs, adverse publicity, and loss of efficiency or productivity. All components at an operation contribute to the success of achieving best-in-class status in these areas. In this course, we examine the role that a maintenance department plays in tire performance. We will address the question of why we do maintenance, what tasks we actually need to do, and when we should do them, to reduce risks to a tolerable (or non-existent) level and an acceptable cost.
